Hunter Valley getaway

It has been a few years since my last holiday to the popular NSW wine region, the Hunter Valley. So when I was invited to a wedding there in March I was excited for the opportunity to explore a bit more of this beautiful region.

The wedding weekend was held at the Sebel Kirkton Park Hunter Valley hotel. With its beautiful rose gardens, picturesque conservatory and views over rolling green hills, I quickly fell in love. Swoon…
We enjoyed high tea in the conservatory the day before the wedding, which was very grown up and civilised of us. Teeny tiny sandwiches. Macarons. Scones with jams and cream. Champagne…yes please!
On the morning of the wedding we had a little time to go wine tasting and decided to revisit some of our favourite cellar doors from our previous visit, as well as try a few new spots. A favourite of ours is a small boutique winery named Blueberry Hill. On our last visit we were won over by their port, but this time around we got to sample their sparkling wine and we were sold.
Nine bottles of reds, whites and sparkling later and we had a very successful morning in the vineyards.
The wedding went off without a hitch and with sensational weather. All in all it was a wonderful weekend away and inspired us to start planning a return trip – although next time we won’t leave it so long between drinks.
