Shopping for your first baby can be both immensely exciting and mind-numbingly boring. For every fun or adorable purchase decision you will have to make there are three ‘standard essentials’ that you simply cannot live without.
But let’s forget about the boring stuff for now; I wanted to share some of the more exciting baby buys I made in the hope that it helps you with your own shopping assignments.
Our nursery is painted white and most of the furniture is also white, so we were in desperate need of an injection of colour. These gorgeous and practical canvas storage bags I found on Leo and Bella did just the trick. Available in a wide selection of prints and colours, I went with the large mint clouds and the yellow lightening bags with brown strap handles.
Not only did I need something to add a little character to the nursery, but I was also keen to get a comfy and portable plat mat for our baby to enjoy some yummy time on. The Mister Fly collection of play mats are insanely adorable and come in lots of different animal characters (I chose the polar bear version), but they are also a great size at one metre wide and perfectly padded.
I’ve written about my gorgeous Redsbaby JIVE pram before but it’s simply too good not to share again. This Australian-designed pram offered everything I was looking for and the price tag was exceptional value. We chose to also get the Maxi-Cosi capsule adaptors so we can use our car capsule if needed, a rain cover, an extra seat liner and a cup holder.
Everyone who has sat on our Strandmon chair has raved about it! The high back offers the perfect angle of support and, combined with the footstool and armrests, it’s immensely comfortable. We went for the Nordvalla dark grey version but other friends of mine have it in the light grey and yellow for the same purpose.
The Gro-egg changes colour to let you know at a glance whether the temperature of a room is too low, too high or just right. Living in Canberra where the summers are hot with a capital H and the winters are cold with a capital C, I wanted this thermometer to make sure both the room and our baby were as comfortable as possible. It also doubles as a colourful nightlight.
A colleague sent me an email to an Oroton outlet sale in case I was in need of a new handbag and while I was browsing through I stumbled upon the perfect nappy bag, thankfully on sale, which I have blogged about before as well. Unfortunately the nappy bag is now sold out online but some other good bag options are the Signature O Large Tote and the Signature O Weekender.
The Bonds range of Zippies, Newbies and Rompers Wondersuits are absolutely essential but still colourful, fun and creative. The iconic Zip Wondersuit features a two-way zip meaning you can change bub quickly without too much fuss, and fold over cuffs on the hands and feet for a little extra warmth. The cute Rompers come with short sleeves and legs perfect for warmer months.
This Liewood mobile of a grey cotton cloud with colorful pom poms was just what I wanted for the nursery. It’s modern but understated and charming and adds some soft colour to the room. The adorable mobile come in three colour combinations and in two different sizes.
I found this super soft white and light grey marle pram blanket on sale at Country Road early on in my pregnancy and couldn’t resist getting it for a steal, even though I didn’t know the colour or style of my pram. But with such a classic colour combo you can’t really go wrong. There are similar ones available still in a fine cotton knit.
We were given a larger size Grobag as a gift from family and chose to get one of the newborn bags as well for the early months. These colourful baby sleep bags are available in different warmth ratings as well as different sizes and come in a range of different colours and prints.
