Winter is finally over and my beautiful baby boy is almost seven months old, which means the time is right to refocus on my health and feel physically strong again.
Since Aidan was born I have tried to stay active and ease back into exercise, but the short winter days and freezing temps have made it hard to leave the house at times. I was also more focused on the positive mental health benefits of exercise and socialising with other mums rather than losing weight or toning up.
But now I am ready to really increase my fitness and flexibility, be more active and move more often, and lose a little weight while building up muscle post-pregnancy.
I am still getting to know my new body and adjusting to my new fitness levels, so I decided that the best way for me to embrace an active lifestyle again was to set myself some new goals.
For the next twelve weeks I am going to be sharing my weekly challenges and fitness goals, and I would love for you to join me by setting your own goals.
For the first week of my 12 Week Spring Fitness Challenge I am focussing on:
- Getting out of my comfort zone: I walk most days but I need to push myself a bit more, so this week I am going to tackle the Mt Majura walk for the first time and complete two MEGA exercise sessions. MEGA, which stands for Mums Exercise Group Australia, is a fantastic initiative providing mums with lots of low cost exercising options like boxing, bootcamp, walks and aqua-aerobics.
- Daily abdominal exercises: My physio has cleared me to start doing abdominal exercises again and gave me a program to follow, so I want to do that every day this week and really focus on strengthening my core. It includes Table Top Holds and modified crunches with my deep core turned on.
- Daily pelvic floor exercise: I was also given some pelvic floor exercises to incorporate into my everyday routine, which includes five seconds holds and quick flicks up to three times a day. I was pretty good with my pelvic floor exercises during my pregnancy and am keen to keep these up daily.
I’m excited about getting some focus back in this area of my life and I would love to hear how you factor fitness into your life.
