I pretty much always have at least one book on the go and as soon as I finish one then I’m straight on to the next.
I have pretty much always been this way with books, but I was concerned having a baby would mean I wouldn’t have time to read for fun for a while. In reality, I have read a crazy amount of books since he arrived and I don’t see myself slowing down anytime soon.
We like to read his picture books together and he loves any books that rhyme like the Hairy Maclary tales. (Also any books with a musical element, the louder the better). And before bed I always read a few chapters to help me unwind and relax. But it was all the nighttime feeds early on that saw me churning through pages.
I downloaded books through iTunes and would read in nighttime mode so the screen light didn’t bother him. It was brilliant because it made getting up a bunch of times in the middle of the night slightly more enjoyable. Now I’m not up as much in the night but I still try and fit in reading whenever I get the chance.
The problem I’m facing is that I am starting to run out of my usual go-to books. I have a real passion for crime fiction and am desperately waiting for some new books from my favourite authors – like both Jonathan and Faye Kellerman, Stuart MacBride, John Grisham, Lisa Gardner, Karin Slaughter and Jo Nesbo – but would love some suggestions in the meantime.
I would also be happy to get out of my comfort zone and try some new authors and different styles.
So what books are you reading now and what should I be picking up (or downloading) next?
