The best of the best: Tubular mascaras

You know a beauty product is good when, once you’ve tried it, you can never go back to what you used before. That’s exactly the way I feel about tubular mascara.

I have been using tubulars exclusively for years now and unlike normal mascaras that paint your eyelashes, tubular mascara creates water-resistent ‘tubes’ around each individual lash. And you don’t need a strong make-up remover to clean-up afterwards like you do with waterproof mascaras – just wash your face with warm water and gently rub your eyes with a cloth, cotton pad or even your bare hands.

Tubular mascaras are long lasting, smudge proof and super easy to use, which is why I can never go back to normal mascara!

I have tried out a few tubular mascaras over the years and these are my favoutires:

  • Clinique Lash Power Mascara Long-wearing Formula $39: This was the first tubular mascara I ever used and its so good I didn’t try anything else for about two years. I love the thin brush to reach every lash for a more natural look, but you can always apply an extra layer for a bolder look. This mascara last through all conditions and also comes in two colours – black onyx and dark chocolate.
  • Poni Cosmetics White Knight Tubing Mascara $30: If you are looking to try tubular mascaras for the first time or want a more affordable option, Poni’s White Knight is a great place to start. It’s a great mascara with a dual functioning brush – pick between volume and length. The formula never irritate my eyes, came off easily and was extremely build-able.
  • MAC Cosmetics Extended Play Lash Mascara, $35: I pick up this MAC mascara from Mecca Maxima, but was suprised that they only stock a few tubular formulas. I like this mascara because it has a very similar brush to Clinique’s for great definition and it’s a deep black. I did experience some irritation though so keep that in mind if you do have sensitive eyes.
  • Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara, $40: My most recent purchase and by far my favourite, this mascara is my first Kevyn Aucoin purchase but it sure wont be my last. It just ticks all the boxes – perfect narrow brush, great dark colour, smooth formula and gorgeous packaging. It lasts all day and beyond, there’s no clumping and it is by far the most effortless to remove. (Plus it’s Zoe Foster Blake approved!)

Have you used tubular mascaras before? Any favs?

With advanced technology from Japan, this groundbreaking mascara uses lash-building fibres to thicken, separate and lengthen your lashes.
