What I bought for my new baby second time around

When you’re pregnant with your first baby there is so much to think about – what type of care you want to have, what baby names you like, and a whole of list of things you need to get for your newborn.

The second time around, things have been very different. My time has been spent wrangling a toddler, juggling work and moving house, and I haven’t had much time to plan for the arrival of baby number 2. But luckily, there is a lot less for us to organise this time; we already have most of the items we need, which is a big help.

I wrote a post about My top ten best baby buys before the birth of my first son and this time around I just have a few additions:

Jellycat Bashful Bunny: One of the first purchases I made after we moved into the second trimester was one of these gorgeous bunnies. My son has had his since he was born and it still sleeps in his bed with him now. The Jellycat toys are so ridiculously soft and cuddly and they make a gorgeous gift for kids.

Bonds’s nappy covers: I picked these up at my local Bonds Outlet store for about $7 each. They are made from cheesecloth so will be lightweight and soft for summer when baby number 2 is due. I also love the bright colours and prints you can choose from.

Love to Dream swaddles: My first son loved these swaddles so much they were a game changer. Unlike traditional swaddles or some other zipper swaddle brands, these swaddles allow babies to bring their hands up to their mouths to self-sooth or to sleep with their arms up and out, which my son loved. Plus the two-way zippers are so much easier to navigate during nighttime changes.

Shnuggle baby bath: I decided to try out a new baby bath that would fit better into the sink at our new home so I didn’t have to bend over awkwardly during bath time. The Shnuggle baby bath caught my eye because the design includes a clever bum bump to support the baby and help them sit in a more comfortable position. It also has a compact size so it only needs to use a small amount of water with each bath.

Skip Hop Greenwich Simply Chic Olive backpack: One of the things I knew I’d need to replace this time around was my nappy bag. I bought a beautiful Oroton bag at a very reduced price first time around but I had a strong feeling that with two kids a backpack would be much more practical. So I gave my original bag to my sister-in-law who was also having a baby and choose this Skip Hop backpack instead. It’s made from vegan leather and comes with nine pockets and a changing pad.

Haakaa Breast Pump: I had seen a lot of posts about these silicone breast pumps, which are also great for capturing any letdown. The compact manual pump is perfect for pumping outside of the home quickly but the suction also allows you to attach it to one side while you pump the other (I have a Tommee Tippee breast pump from my first baby which I will use again) and catch every precious drip. I am excited to try this out.

Hopefully this list is helpful, but if you have anything else you’d add I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
