I think the combination of self-isolation and a need to be creative meant that recently the time was right to try something new…
A few weeks ago I was hit with the desire to teach myself how to crochet. I’m not exactly sure where this need came from, except one day I spotted a beautiful photo on Instagram and then discovered the incredible account – @debrosse_nyc.
I decided to teach myself myself how to through YouTube tutorials and online patterns. Then I picked up some basic supplies from Big W and got to it.
I found this Sewrella tutorial for a scarf was really easy to follow and I just stopped before it was made into an infinity scarf.
I then learnt some other stitches and tried a few scarves on my own. It involved a fair bit of trial and error, but I found crochet to be quite forgiving.
Most recently I downloaded some patterns from Debrosse and made The Tabasse blanket. I tweaked the pattern slightly to make it more suitable for a smaller baby blanket.
I used a 10mm hook instead of a 15mm and a chunky or 12 ply yarn instead of a super chunky or 16ply yarn.
The yarn I picked up at Spotlight and is the Moda Vera Hampton Soft Chunky Cotton Blend in blue. It’s a gorgeous blue that looks slightly faded and is a combination of cotton and acrylic.
My next challenge is to learn how to make a beanie and I’m using a pattern from Mama in a Stitch.
